Autism Spectrum Disorder
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is like having a unique superpower that makes you see the world in your very own awesome way! It might make some things, like talking or making friends, a bit tricky sometimes. Plus, sometimes there’s a party in your brain called sensory overload, where things like sounds, lights, or textures can feel extra intense. But guess what? It also brings amazing strengths like super creativity and laser focus on cool details.
Our clinic specializes in providing personalized support for individuals with ASD, focusing on developing communication skills, social interactions, and daily life routines. We believe in celebrating neurodiversity and empowering each person to thrive in their own way. Together, we can navigate challenges, build new skills, and create a brighter future.
What is ASD?
Core Symptoms
Why Us?
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by challenges in social interaction, communication, and behavior, with a wide range of symptoms and severity levels. Core symptoms typically manifest by age 2 or 3.
Individuals with ASD may experience difficulties in social communication, repetitive behaviors, sensory sensitivities, and restricted interests. Early intervention is crucial, as it significantly improves outcomes, addressing challenges and preventing secondary issues. Diagnostic criteria include social communication challenges, restricted and repetitive behaviors, and sensory sensitivities.
According to DSM IV, the symptoms are divided into three groups, with at least 6 points from the diagnostic criteria having to be met in order to be able to diagnose “early childhood autism”.
- Social Communication Challenges:
- Difficulty in understanding and interpreting social cues.
- Impaired non-verbal communication (e.g., eye contact, facial expressions, gestures).
- Limited interest in sharing experiences, emotions, or achievements with others.
- Impaired development of peer relationships.
- Delayed or lack of development in spoken language.
- Challenges in initiating and sustaining conversations
- Restricted and Repetitive Behaviors:
- Strong adherence to routines and resistance to change.
- Intense focus on specific interests, often to the exclusion of other activities.
- Lines up toys or other objects and gets upset when order is changed
- Repeats words or phrases over and over (called echolalia)
- Plays with toys the same way every time
- Sensory Sensitivities:
- Heightened or reduced sensitivity to sensory stimuli (e.g., sound, light, touch).
- Unusual reactions to sensory input, such as indifference or aversion.
- Additional traits often associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) include:
- Delayed Developmental Skills
- Delayed motor skills, impacting both fine and gross motor coordination.
- Cognitive and Learning Delays
- Hyperactivity, impulsivity, and/or inattentiveness, which may overlap with symptoms of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
- Epilepsy or Seizure Disorder
- Unusual Eating and Sleeping Patterns
- Gastrointestinal Issues
Treatment and support options for ASD include early intervention services, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, medication in rare cases, and neurofeedback. ABA is a widely used and individualized approach focusing on positive reinforcement.
Neurofeedback aims to regulate brain activity, and when combined with ABA, it can enhance self-regulation, target specific cognitive functions, address sensory processing issues, and support emotional regulation. Educational and behavioral support, along with family support and counseling, are essential components.
ABC Neuro-hub, with its comprehensive approach incorporating ABA, Neurofeedback, and Psychotherapy, is highlighted as an ideal choice for ASD treatment. We provide personalized and effective care through the expertise of neuropsychiatrist consultants, behavior analysts, and dedicated therapists.
